I went with the expectation that ManiRathnam would deliver to his own standards. I don't think he did a good job on that. Here is why I think so.
1. At the beginning, he showed Iswarya like a freak, freedom loving, outgoing personality. This created a image about her and start expecting a strong character out of her in the movie.......but she is used just as a beautiful doll, and has nothing to do in the life of a great man except used as his mouth piece at the end. What a waste of resource?
2. The way Abishek handles with IAS officer is a repetition of what Rajini does against M.L.A (sending all his cows to M.L.A 's house) in Annamali movie. Poor IAS officer had no other option other than coming to Abhishek's APT standing in the rain and begging.
3. The villain (contractor at the stock market) gave a big build-up initially, but nothing worth-while on his part. Golfing scene is not all that mind blowing.
4. Iswarya's brother moves away from his business for no BIG/specific reason.......He went away just to make Iswarya move away from Abishek. They joined together little later anyway, didn't solve any purpose eventually. Just to create sympathy for Abhishek.....director vikraman would have done a fantastic job on this scene.
5. Abhishek wanted to say something to the enquiry committee at the end of the first day, which is just "Namasthe", Ishwara shows sarcastic smiles out of that comment.......Mani would have expected claps at that scene.....but nothing happened in the theater.
6. Not sure why he created a character who is sitting in the wheel chair al-thru the movie.......Just to create a feel that, though Abhishek is big business man, he does have a soft corner and stuff that will make ordinary Indian fan feel great about his personality.
7. The scene Madhavan asking Wheel-chair girl for marriage did really look bad as if he is doing a great favor to her, there by insulting her current state of being. It should have been felt by audience as moments of great compassion. Director like Mani can NOT make that mistake.
8. The song where Abhisek is drinking and dancing doesn't fit in the screen play well enough.
9. The whole enquiry committee shuts itself off just because of Abhisek's 2 minute climax's speech. The head of the committee says...."We can not hang him for what he did"......of course they can not, but they could punish him for whatever wrong he did against business ethics.
10. Abishek as a business leader violated every law, safety standards, Media ethics and what not .......He had only one thing in mind " TO WIN " in the business. Finally Mani portrayed him as a National leader, who struggles to bring India up and a patriotic guy. This all Bull crap.
11. One last thing........Mani is famous for handling true stories, and projecting them as the way it is on the screen with reality of the character play the major role. But he left room for hero worship in his movie like other directors.
I can NOT imagine GURU is directed by a guy who created "Anjali"

Hello Anony,
Even 'Aala-vanthaan' is for selective audience.......I am not talking about that.
Anyway, criticism is for improvement and that applies to your comment as well.
Thanks bro.

Manirathnam don't seem to have any standards post kannathil muthamittal.
சொந்த சரக்கு தீர்ந்திட்டாலே இது மாதிரி ஜிகினா வேலைதான்.
Good observations! I did watch the movie with no regrets. But while reading your post I kinda say TRUE to all the points.
